I just want you to know that this afternoon when we were running an errand, I grabbed my camera as we were walking out the door and told Marc I needed to take a picture of a zebra crossing. Funny thing is, he kind of knows now when I take random pictures that it's for the blog. It's all for y'all, I want you to experience my world. :)
This is a Zebra Crossing. In the UK a "z" is pronounced like "zed" so if you can imagine saying the z not like we are use to saying it...this is confusing. It would not like sound like zebra, but "zehbra" if that makes ANY sense at all. You can see from the black/white stripes on the ground that this is where it got it's name. A "zehbra" crossing gives pedestrians the right of way, so all traffic must stop if one is crossing. It's always a good idea to look both ways before you step out into the zebra crossing because, well, it's just a good idea. Cars don't always see you and don't always stop. I think zebra crossings were made quite famous from the cover of Abbey Road the Beatles album, they were shown on the cover walking across one. That particular one is in London. On Abbey Road. Aren't you glad I cleared that up for you? :)

It's official! Charity has totally lost it! ZEHBRA? Cerys will learn all about our various crossings (zebra, pelican, puffin, toucan) when she starts nursery and meets Mrs Tufty. "The little red man means stop and wait even if it makes you late, late, late. The little green man means go, go, go, except when he's flashing then it's no, no, no."

Thank you for clearing up something for me. Our pastor, who is from Brighton, England, was making a point a couple of weeks ago in one of his sermons and he said, "from A to Zed". I turned to my husband and said, "did he say zed!?" LOL! I love your culture education.
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. Last week I noticed a little sign high up on a telephone pole on the edge of my neighborhood - in a highly populated area - about .5 a mile from the airport! The sign had a picture of a deer with "X-ing" underneath. A deer crossing?! What?! I've driven my there thousands of times in 5 years and never noticed the sign. I totally want to take a picture for the blog. It's especially funny to see the 10 foot wide strip of "woods" the deer are supposed to be crossing from.

Be careful before you LAUGH about that deer crossing sign by an airport - - - - this summer I was on my way to Sunday School when I HIT a deer as two of them jumped from a tiny strip of woods in front of my car on their way to the airport on the other side of the road!!!!
Stranger things have happened.
It makes perfect sense to me, it was the same in Zimbabwe. Except there, it was pronounced more like ZEHDBRA.
