Blowout

Today was The Great Nappy (Diaper) Blowout of 2009. I've lived through some pretty impressive blowouts, but today, I had to call in back-up. We had just been for Addison's 8 week check-up (even though she's 9 weeks!) and she got her first immunisations- yes that is how Brits spell it. She screamed her head off, bless her heart and I ended up nursing her to get her to calm down.

As soon as we got home I was rocking her in the office chair- it's the only chair that rocks in our house. Not very comfortable or nice, but hey, it works! Her face turned red, she grunted and it was a loud one. Then she smiled really big. She was so cute that I just sat there talking to her and smiling back. After a few minutes, when I was sure she was finished, I laid her down on the changing table and proceeded to change her. I didn't notice anything leaking from the sides her nappy so I was quite pleased that it was not going to be as bad as it sounded.

I was very wrong.

It was up her back to her shoulders y'all! It was all over her onesie that she had on under her outfit and her outfit..well, it's now yellow. I yelled for help and Marc, who was thankfully home at the time, came in and just said, "WOW!" We managed to get her onesie off, but it is now in the rubbish bin. There was no point in washing it. I put her straight in the bathtub, which she totally enjoyed. How do I know? She was kicked back, totally relaxed, with a sideways grin on her face! So cute!

It's amazing how much comes out of a little baby! Did I tell you about her projectile spit-up yesterday? No? Oh, it was gross too. I had her over my shoulder as I was walking out of the living room and out it came...hit the hardwood floors and splattered all over the wall, couch, chair and door.

I've done a lot of laundry the past two days.

*Guess who is potty trained! :) Miss Bailey is in big girl panties during the day! We are so proud of her. I tried potty training her right after Addison was born...why? Why would I even attempt something like that so soon after giving birth? It did not work and I was too tired. We tried again just after getting back from our trip, the Ariel panties I got at Target really helped I think!

That same thing happened to us when we were eating out when Madelyn was probably about that age...yeah, the two of us trying to clean this up in the middle of the courtyard was hilarious, I'm sure!!!
Have you heard of the bumGenius reusuable diapers? We switched to them when M was about 3 months old and I can't believe we didn't have the other two in them!!! They hold in those ginormous blowouts like you wouldn't believe! Plus as a side note you save money and help the environment. :) Of course, now that M is on solid food we have solid poops that don't go anywhere - Haaaaaaaallelujah!

I had unbelievable blowouts with Noah. The child pooped every 8 days like consistently. He wasn't on solid foods, so it was ok, but it was thicker than your typical breastmilk poo. I just made sure he had an outfit on day 8 that I didn't care about! B/c it went EVERYWHERE.
I used cloth with Elijah for the first 18 months (including BumGenius... they NEVER leaked) and did find that they hold it in better.

hehe...at least she waited until you got home. Koren had his most memorable explosion AT the doctor's office.

Glad you guys got back safely!

Oh the blow outs and up!! I bought new couches when Will was about 6 months old. 6 years later - I need new couches!! Ugh. The spit-up.

Sometimes you just have to throw the onesie away! Walmart has quite carrying my favorite brand of diapers. I've used them for 6 years. Almost as good as Pampers but cheaper than Pampers w/a coupon. I'm very sad about it.

We've added solids to Sam's diet. That's when the diapers REALLY get fun. :)

Oh my. I've cleaned more poopy shoulders and backs in my lifetime than I care to remember. Ick.

And they do always grin and smile afterwards, don't they? Sneaky little munchkins.
