Man, I got the "are you sure there's only one baby in there" too. There's nothing like other people's tactlessness to make a pregnant woman feel like a walking freak show.
I heard the same thing with Melissa! Oh it would make me mad, because I would hear it over and over at work. Don't let it get to you, I bet you look really good!
How rude can people be?! At least no one has asked you what my co-worked ask another co-worker. Joe, my co-worker got on the elevator (lift) with a lady that worked upstairs in another division and asked her when her baby was due. She answered, "my baby is six months old." He promptly got off at the next stop, which was not his destination. We NEVER let him live that down.
My favorite was "Don't have that baby in here!" from a checkout clerk at one of the craft stores. When I told her I still had 8 weeks to go she responed with "No way, you look like you're about to pop, and I don't want you to have that baby in here."
I had to bite my tounge to keep from responding with "Trust me, I know EXACTLY how much longer I have, and if you would just stop staring at my belly and RING UP MY PURCHASE ALREADY I would happily get out of your store so you won't have to worry about it."
People have no clue, and the worst offenders seem to be other women. Why is that?
Yep. I got the "are you sure you're not having twins" line too. My desired response: "Well, at least I'm pregnant. You're just fat." But I held my tongue...
