Ok, here's a little survey for you...
When choosing a baby name, did you...or will you....
A. choose a name because of the meaning, origin or what it stands for
B. choose a name just because you liked it and didn't really care about the meaning
Thanks!
Can you tell we are trying to decide on Baby Girl's name? :)

A bit of both! (I know that is not helpful, but there you have it.) :)
We went with option A - meaning and family connections
A - definitely!
When choosing names for our boys, they had to both have a good meaning. We tried to use as many family names as possible too (Nathaniel, John, Timothy). Joshua isn't a family name, but I love Biblical names. However, I didn't want "Jacob" because the meaning isn't good. That's just us, though!
Are you going to stick with the Welsh theme?
We have 2 names picked out for our kids..if we are blessed with them.
One for a boy and one for a girl.
They both have names we like and a family name in them. So kinda a mix of both of your options!
We went with B, although we did eliminate some names from the possibles list if we really didn't like the meaning.
we mostly went with "B" unless the meaning was something terrible.
especially with gaelic or celtic names, we found some that sounded cool, but then their meaning was "pond goop on the western coast."
those, we axed.
I don't have any kids to name yet but I have picked some for when I do and I just pick the name because I like it. If I picked it based on the meaning I wouldn't like the name. It just always works out like that. I do wish that some of the names I liked had a "better" meaning but I would forgo the meaning most of time for the sake of really liking the name. Ultimately you call the name of the child more than you do the meaning. Ha. Can you imagine....naming your child Isaac but calling him "laughter" because you like the meaning but not necessarily the name. Hahaha...I'm a dork. That's just funny! "Laughter...you pick up these socks...I'm not telling you again!" I'm in a weird mood today. I need to email you and update you on what's going on. I'll send you a message on facebook.
We chose first names based on what we liked and their meaning and they just happened to be Biblical. Middle names are family, well except for #3, he got named for the city where we served as ISC'ers!! And they all had to function well in romance languages, kinda like your welsh theme. I think meaning is very important, to us anyway.
I had fun naming boy#3 because I needed it to be REALLY special and unique since, well I had already used my long planned for boy names. I had to really bond with the name. That is important too.
Have fun!!! You are SO lucky to have three girls!!! And three of the same gender is just so special and fun. My boys are the best of friends and just adorable all three together. I am thrilled for you guys!!
Shelly (friend of Sandi's)
I this is a decision for you and Mark... But,i would chose option "A".
God Bless you aways!!
A. Well, actually, Jamie is named after Michael's grandfather, so that's the meaning there. But Jaden we were looking for J names and liked it, and then we found out we liked the meaning, too--"God has heard." But if it had meant "God hasn't heard" or something not so good, we probably wouldn't have stayed with it. So I guess a little of both.
We use one family name and one Bible name. For the Bible name meaning is important. For the Family name the heritage behind the name is important. Will and Ben have started to understand that they each have one of Daddy's names. You can see this is important to them and they take pride in that.
I would say A. We wanted Biblical names for both girls, but when we couldn't agree on one w/#2, I went for the meaning. Hannah mean's "God's gracious gift" and I couldn't bear to name our second baby something that meant "one who sews clothes" or something. LOL I think there's a lot to be said for name meanings.
B -- the meanings ended up being special, too...but, we for sure just went with what we liked. We found Tate's name off of the ending credits of a TV show...go figure.
Happy Choosing!
We did a little of both. I had some trouble with Madelyn b/c I have seen before that it means "tower of beauty," but all I could find during my pregnancy was "woman of Magdela." But I really liked the name so I decided she could be named after Mary Magdaline. Then there's the whole Caleb thing with it meaning dog in Arabic. But we found other meanings like "friend, loyal, light," plus what better example than Caleb from the old testament? So that's probably way more than you wanted, but there it is!
B. I loved the names and used them because I loved them...and was very pleased when I found out their meanings. It was a bonus that they were Biblical.
I have a friend who chooses a life verse for her children which I think is a fabulous idea! Not all of her children have Biblical names, but I love that it adds a faith element to the process.
Good luck...choosing names is SO hard!
