This past week Marc was in city centre a lot showing around our group of 10 interns here for the summer and he came home saying that the place where Dickey's was, was re-opened and named Desperadoes. So, since Sunday was Marc's 33rd Birthday, we ventured down there for dinner, hoping it was for real! They were opened and had no one inside so we went right in. The customer service was lacking, but we've come to expect that here. Overall, it was yummy food and tasted like the real deal to us! I had chopped beaf, potato salad and BBQ beans, Marc had some of that too and pork along with it. There were references to Texas throughout the place and after our meal we spoke to our waitress about it. She said they re-opened 4 weeks ago under a new name and they've done really well so far. Apparently the day before, she said they were packed. Which would not be too hard seeing as there were only 6 or 7 tables, but still we were glad to hear it. I told her we were from Texas and she said they manager (same as before) had married a Texan years ago and his father in law was in the business as well, so they thought they would try it out here in Cardiff.
Overall, we were really pleased and will go back again! It's really expensive to eat in this country, but it's nice to have somewhere to go when we want good food. Nando's (if you have never had Nando's- bless you and if you come see us we will take you there!) and now Desperadoes will be our stand by choices. :) They even had red and white checked table cloths y'all! :)

Woohoo! :) I'm sorry, I'm Texan and proud of it. (Marc just cringed!) :)

That would be like us finding a Chick-fil-A in Wales. LOL! BTW, New Hope is in Wales this week. Our pastor and his family were not allowed to leave the US for 90 days because of the green card process. They were very disappointed, but are confident the Lord's hand is in all of this. If they had gone, the INS would not have allowed them back into the country. They were only days from leaving. It's comforting know the Lord's hand is on all of us.
It's all about Nando's! Happy Bday Marc!
That is so us! On the trip we just took every town in TX had the "biggest something or other". My Kansas born husband just about died having to read it all. I'm so happy for you to have a little touch of home!
Wow! I'm so impressed...and jealous. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing like that here! Hard to find ANYTHING truly American, much less Texan!
Happy Belated, Marc!
"God made Texas with His own hands - - -"
(can't remember any more of it at this moment)
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!
Then there's this one: "All my X'es live in Texas, that's why I hang my hat in Tennessee!!
LOL - - - just had to throw that in.
Charity, you are soooo American! When things calm down we will take you to a proper restaurant - one where nothing is flame grilled and they don't sell french fries x
Sounds fun. I do love Nandos...soooo yummy!
